‘I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse’. This is a quote from Wonder, a book by R.J Palacio, first published in 2012. I came across this book first as part of our community read programme in Thirds.
Wonder is the story of a boy called August Pullman, who has suffered from facial deformity. Due to this, he was not able to go to a proper school, so lived his life at home. Wonder talks about the time that he became brave enough to go to school, and the difficulty he faces. The story is written, so you understand the situation from different perspectives.
When August starts at Beecher Prep School, will people accept him for who he is? Read Wonder to find out. I would recommend Wonder to children aged 11 upwards. Wonder truly is a heart-warming, inspirational story and I hope people love it as much as I do.
